KCYJ @ Monterey

And we thought Kansas was windy……….

The KCYJ Reno band fought the wind and cold at the first performance of the day.  Our students were scheduled to perform at Fisherman’s Wharf at 12:30pm.  By the time our group was allowed to set up, they were about 45 minutes behind schedule.

It was so windy that a speaker tower, several music stands and lots of music went flying, even though we came prepared with clips and clothes pins.  Despite everything, the kids did a great job.  As Mr. Brady started to announce our final number, Kansas City, the sound people shut off the power and told him to quit.  Needless to say, that didn’t go over too well.

After a quick lunch of Subway sandwiches, we were off to Cannery Row for another performance, scheduled for 4:00pm.

The Cannery Row performance was wonderful.  The sun came out just as KCYJ hit the stage.  This time our fearless leader opened with our signature song and everyone got a chance to solo.  Next was Birdland, then Front Burner, and What’d I Say and finally Children of Sanchez.

As I passed out our postcards with KCYJ information and photos, people were asking me if we were really from Kansas City.  They seemed interested in our program.  Yes!

Dinner was at a pizza place a few blocks from the hotel, then concert at 8:30pm.  After the concert some of our students will participate the jam session.

Another long day, but so much fun!
